Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, both coming off of victories in their latest fights, are planning a hybrid style match against each other for some time later this year. History has shown us mixed results when MMA fighters convert over to traditional boxing matches. MMA stars Vitor Belfort, Anderson Silva and Artem Lobov were all successful against boxers Evander Holyfield, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Paulie Malignaggi in their respective matches while Tyrone Woodley, Ben Askren and Conor McGregor all failed in their boxing attempts against Jake Paul (3x) and Floyd Mayweather.

What could complicate Francis Ngannou’s delusional dreams against fighting in a hybrid style boxing match against Tyson Fury is that Francis’ contractual obligation for one more fight under the UFC banner. And speaking of the “hybrid” rules that Francis mentioned in Fury’s post fight interview, the idea floating around is that the two combatants will use MMA gloves rather than traditional boxing gloves and fight in a cage as opposed to a boxing ring.
Here is yet another gimmicky attempt for an MMA fighter to cross over to boxing and rob fans of whatever ridiculous pay-per-view price that will be required to watch this nonsense. Here’s hoping for the fans sake that this match doesn’t happen.
