Bellator MMA will add a division for the first time since 2014 featuring some of the top men’s flyweight contenders.
News of Bellator’s expansion was first reported by MMA Junkie.
The men’s flyweight roster is still being worked on and Bellator could officially ‘launch’ the division in the coming weeks. The promotion has yet to make an official announcement regarding its reported new division.
Bellator was supposed to feature a flyweight bout between former champion Kyoji Horiguchi and former UFC fighter Ray Borg earlier this year. But, the fight was canceled after Borg withdrew due to a botched weight cut.

While Horiguchi hasn’t formally announced his future plans, he’s expected to be one of the top contenders for the division’s launch. He defeated Hiromasa Ougikubo in his flyweight return during the Bellator vs. RIZIN cross-promotional event on New Year’s Eve.
Horiguchi fought for the UFC flyweight title against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 186, falling short via fifth-round submission.
Bellator will return with Bellator 297 on June 16th, featuring a light heavyweight title fight between Vadim Nemkov and Yoel Romero.
