UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill has been facing a lot of disrespect. However, when it came to Megan Olivi, he felt like he had to speak up.
The circumstances in which Hill won the light heavyweight title was far from normal, as he fought for a vacant title after Jiří Procházka opted to drop his belt to rehab an injury. He made the best of the situation though, retiring former champ Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.
Jamahal Hill Calls Out Megan Olivi and Regrets It
Over the weekend, Johnny Walker emerged as a possible contender by beating Anthony Smith in the co-main event of UFC Charlotte. As a result, he was questioned about the potential of a second fight between he and Jamahal Hill by Megan Olivi, after the fight.
Hill caught wind of this interview, in particular the fact that Olivi mistakenly called him the interim champion before correcting herself. However, he did not notice the correction she made, and felt the need to call her out for referring to him as the interim champ, with a now-deleted tweet.
“Interim Champ? @MeganOlivi that’s how you feel?” Hill wrote.

It did not take long for Olivi to respond though, and explain that she meant no disrespect to Hill. She also provided video proof to prove that she immediately corrected herself in the moment.
“I immediately corrected myself! I’m so sorry, you know I have nothing but respect for you!” Olivi responded.

With this response, Hill swiftly deleted the tweet and apologized for mishearing the clip. He also asked his followers to stop going after Olivi for the innocent mistake.
“Y’all chill on @MeganOlivi I was getting on a plane a didn’t listen close enough to the clip!!! She made a mistake and immediately corrected herself!! It’s always been nothing but love and respect between us!!!” Hill said.

While criticizing the UFC broadcast has become something of a norm recently, it is nice to Jamahal Hill take responsibility for the mistake he made. It will be exciting to see him try to silence the doubters that do exist, when he faces off against Jiří Procházka sometime down the line.
